Our live feed has now finished.

  • THE LATEST
  • March 8 and March 29 are the key dates for the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, subject to four conditions being met.
  • WHAT ARE THE FOUR CONDITIONS?
  • Vaccinations continue to progress as planned
  • Vaccines continue to work effectively, particularly when it comes to bringing down the number of hospitalisations and deaths
  • New infection rates do not risk a spike in hospital admissions
  • New variants of the virus do not increase the risk of a surge in new infections
  • HOW IS THAT GOING?
  • Downing Street says those conditions are being met at the moment, meaning restrictions can start to be lifted from March 8 and include those currently set for March 29.
  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN FROM MARCH 8?
  • All schools will open and outdoor after-school sports and activities will be allowed.
  • Up to two people from different households can meet up for recreation in a public space, such as a park, meaning they would be allowed to sit down for a coffee, drink or picnic.
  • New rules will allow each care home resident in England to have one regular visitor.
  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN FROM MARCH 29?
  • Outdoor gatherings of either six people or two households will be allowed, to include private gardens.
  • Outdoor sports facilities will reopen and organised adult and children's sport, including team sports, will return
  • Travel out of your local area can resume, although guidance is likely to still recommend staying local. Overnight stays will not be permitted.
  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN FROM APRIL 12?
  • Subject to progress, non-essential retail, hair and beauty, indoor gyms and holiday lets to return.
  • Pubs and restaraunts to reopen OUTDOORS without curfew and no need for the sale of a substantial meal to serve alcohol.
  • Zoos, theme parks and community centres to also open.
  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON MAY 17?
  • Subject to progress, the limit on people meeting up outdoors to be upped to 30.
  • People will be able to see friends and family indoors.
  • Pubs and restaraunts, cinemas and indoor play areas, theatres, concert venues and, albeit with capacity limitations, sports stadiums to reopen.
  • WHAT WILL HAPPEN FROM JUNE 21?
  • Subject to progress, remove all legal limitations on social contact.
  • Reopen everything up to and including nightclubs.
