A NEW outdoor gym is set to be built at the Abbey Stadium - which will allow up to 30 people to exercise at once.

Funding has now been agreed by Redditch Borough Council, with Rubicon Leisure hoping to open the £255,000 gym in September.

It's being finance by ringfenced money secured through contributions from three local housing development schemes.

The gym will be built at the rear of the centre between the main building and the athletics track.

The plan will help meet the council’s aim of increasing physical activity opportunities and supporting people to improve their health and wellbeing.

Rubicon managing director Simon Ingyon said: "The project is in the very early stages and now funding has been agreed by full council we are really excited to get started, which subject to further Government restrictions, we hope to open in September.

"We feel the proposals will really enhance our current health and fitness offer and provide both current and potential new members with further choice and better experiences.

"Looking after your health and wellbeing have never been more important and we hope that by continuing to improve and develop our activities, we can encourage people to become more active.”

Councillor Mike Rouse said: “I am delighted the outdoor gym was approved and is part of this council’s commitment to unlocking leisure locally in partnership with Rubicon.

“Whether you choose to exercise at the ever-improving Arrow Valley County Park or would prefer a gym setting, we are improving the resilience of our town’s facilities so everyone can find something to suit their needs. ”
