A FLOOD warning remains in place in Bredon with an alert for areas in and around Evesham as the spectre of problems still lingers.

Levels in the River Avon are beginning to drop and mercifully, the rain has subsided in the worst-affected areas.

Widespread flooding had hit the Evesham area over the weekend with some relief that levels south of the town, where the flood warning is still active, peaked on Sunday night.

More rain is forecast over the next week but it is expected to be sporadic.

The Flood Warning Information Service (FWIS) said: “The Evesham river gauge is steady and predicted to rise again as a result of recent rainfall.

“Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected to continue. We expect flooding to be affecting properties and roads around Mill Lane, Strensham and the Dock Lane area of Bredon.

“A predicted peak at Evesham of between 1.9m to 2.3m is expected on Wednesday afternoon (February 3). Bredon river gauge peaked on Sunday with no further peak forecast.”

The flood alert – which warns the public to “be prepared” – is active around Evesham and moving south.

The warning – which warns the public that "immediate action" is required – kicks in as water heads down into already troubled areas.

The FWIS statement for Evesham read: “Flooding of roads and farmland continues. Flooding is affecting low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Avon from Abbotts Salford to Tewkesbury.

“Other locations that may be affected include Offenham, Evesham, Twyning and the Eckington Road. Mill Bank Road from Jubilee Bridge to Fladbury is impacted.”

The Met Office indicates the possibility of rain tonight (Wednesday) and on Friday and Saturday but for short spells and with steady rather than heavy rainfall.

Waterside in Eveshan, Brook Lane in Cropthorne and Jubilee Bridge in Fladbury have all been reopened after flooding problems but Walcot Ford near Pinvin remains closed.
