MARKET Place in Redditch will get refreshed paving as part of Worcestershire County Council’s Town Centre Improvement Programme.

The scheme will include new paving at the junction of Evesham Walk and Market Place and down Market Place into Mercian Square.

The paving will then link with previous improvement works on Alcester Street and Church Green East.

As part of the scheme, works will also take place to replace the central drainage channel on Evesham Walk.

The improvements are set to get underway during the week commencing Monday, February 1.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Economy and Infrastructure, said: "It’s great that we’re now able to move forward with these works.

“The aim of the works is to help boost the local economy by making it more attractive for businesses and visitors – something that is always important but especially so during these difficult times.

“The works will link well with previous improvements delivered in the area as part of our Town Centre Improvement Programme, which has been a great success across the county."

The works are set for completion in the summer and will be carried out in a way that will minimise any impact on businesses and pedestrians, as much as possible. All works will follow the Highway Sector’s Site Operating Procedures with regard to the control of Covid-19.

The plans for the scheme have been developed in consultation with Redditch Borough Council.

These improvements are part of the wider Town Centre Improvement Programme; a programme that has seen successful works carried out in recent years including improvements to Pump Street and The Shambles in Worcester, High Street in Stourport and Worcester Street in Kidderminster.
