A DELIVERY driver has voiced his frustration after being moved from 'one rat infested home to another' in Redditch.

Darren Upton, a Redditch Borough Council tenant for 30 years, says he has been waiting nearly nine months to return to his home on Batchley Road whilst repair work is carried out.

However, after visiting the home, he now feels it's been made "ten times as bad" after finding footprints, holes and damaged tiles.

He says that the council home on Salters Lane where he currently lives also "has a rat problem."

Mr Upton told The Advertiser: "You could call me the pied piper of Redditch.

"I was moved from my home in May. I had an infestation of rats. The home's also having some electrical work and rewiring done.

"It's dragging on now. I was originally told ten days for the work to be done it's now getting on for nine months.

"Having visited the property a few times in the past few months to see how work was progressing, I have now come to the conclusion that the council and workmen have made the property ten times as bad, leaving footprint holes in my living room ceiling and bedroom ceiling.

"They have ripped my kitchen floor and destroyed my tiles in the hall way."

Mr Upton moved into the property on Batchley Road following an exchange two years ago.

He also said that he feels the council has forgotten about his situation.

A spokesperson for Redditch Borough Council said: “While works did temporarily stop, a new programme has recently been given to us by the contractor and they are back on track.

"We will be contacting the tenant about this to update him and to resolve any other issues.”
