AN intrepid sixteen-year-old from Stourport has raised thousands for a mental health charity after running 300 miles in 30 consecutive days.

RGS Worcester student Max Collins spent November taking on the marathon challenge in aid of Young Minds UK.

The young runner wanted to show his support for children who are suffering from mental health issues. He was seen running on the streets of Stourport every morning and evening, with residents cheering him on.

The teenager has now raised over £3800 for the charity and people can continue to donate here.

Max said: “I am so humbled by all the support I have received for my challenge.

"I couldn’t have done it without the support from my home town, my school and my family.

“My JustGiving page has gone mad over the last 24 hours – we’re now close to £4000 – its just great.

"I’m so pleased that I could do something positive during such challenging times and for such an important cause - I’m keen to keep championing the importance of mental health and I’m already thinking about what I’m going to do next."

Mum Emma said: “Saying we are proud is an understatement – we are bursting. The determination and mental strength that Max has shown over the last 30 days has been immense.

"He’s a special kid and has a heart of gold and we’re thrilled that so many people have supported him on his mission.

"We’re looking forward to celebrating his achievement with the family over Christmas.”

Max finished his final run on Monday (November 30) at RGS Worcester in front of his family, friends and teachers.

Headmaster John Pitt said: “He has shown true perseverance and commitment throughout his challenge, whilst raising an impressive amount of money for a very worthwhile cause."

"Mental health support is so important in these times, and we are sure Max’s efforts will help many young people."
