A REDDITCH school has launched a fundraiser to help provide food and essentials to disadvantaged students over the winter holidays.

The Kingfisher School in Matchborough, which provides education and support for children with social, emotional and mental health needs, want to ensure their vulnerable students don't go hungry.

They have set up a JustGiving page with the aim of raising £2,000. So far they have raised well over £800, and are urging Redditch residents to help out.

A statement on the JustGiving page reads: "Due to the nature of our school we have a high proportion of students that receive Pupil Premium and Free School Meals.

"Our children have encountered traumatic events, significant abuse and continue to experience struggles daily, no child should ever have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

"Due to the recent budget cuts and the Government denying free school meals for children during holidays, we would like to offer our support in ensuring our children are provided with food and essentials throughout this unprecedented time.

"Staff at Kingfisher ask for any donations to help with our cause and ensure our children's wellbeing needs are met."
