ROYAL Navy sailor Ashley Evans is putting his sea legs to good use – on land.
The Brierley Hill 29-year-old is running four miles a day throughout November to complete a 100-mile challenge to raise money for the British Legion.
So far he’s raised more than £1,250 and hopes to make the figure go a lot higher as he pounds out the miles at a rate of around 30 minutes every for miles.
In fact he timed his Remembrance Sunday run around Mary Stevens’ Park so that he completed it ready for the minute’s silence.
Ashley has normally been on deployment around the world since he joined the Navy 12 years ago but last year he was posted to logistics at Bristol and is now working from home in Brierley Hill, with fiancée Kirsty Garbett, 26, and Ashley’s son Chace, three.
He aims to complete a full 23 years’ service.
He was partly inspired to carry out his challenge by his father Paul (better known as Zig), who is a Legion member, and partly to keep himself active while home working.
