A drink-driver who caused an accident in which someone was seriously injured has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Daniel Shillingford, aged 33, of Marshall Crescent, Wordsley, admitted failing to stop after an accident in his Alfa Romeo car on Auckland Road which injured Erick Cabral.

He also admitted being over the drink drive limit, not reporting the accident, and driving carelessly.

Magistrates sentenced him to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years. They said he had caused serious injury to the victim and then drove off, but suspended the sentence because there were no previous convictions.

He has been put on a supervision order for two years and curfewed for four months from noon to 2am. He was also ordered to pay £263 in costs.

A Halesowen teenager has been fined £75 for possession of cannabis. Christian Harrison, aged 19, of Spiral Close, pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug in Rhyl.

He was ordered to pay £135 costs and £34 victim surcharge.

A 60-year-old man who was carrying a machete in Rowley Regis has been given a community order and must pay £295 in court costs.

John Joseph Harrison, of Church Walk, pleaded guilty to having the machette in Church Road. An order was made for the it to be destroyed.

Magistrates did not impose a prison sentence because of a long history of no convictions and mental health issues.

A Netherton man who has more than once spat at an emergency worker during the pandemic has been a suspended jail sentence.

Martin Oakley, aged 29, of Brewster Street, admitted spitting at a police officer in June.

Magistrates the jail warning was because it was a serious public protection issue and he had a previous conviction for the same offence. There was a need to protect front line workers, they said.

Oakley was sentenced to a six-week jail term, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay £200 compensation and £128 to fund victim services.

A 62-yearold Stourbridge woman who assaulted two paramedics has been ordered to pay £200 in compensation.

Carol Ann Garrington, of South Road, Norton, admitted assaulting Chloe Lewis and Georgie Hutchings in Stourbridge in July. She was placed on a community order.

A Dudley teenager’s dangerous driving has left him threatened with a detention centre.

Arsen Burkevics, aged 18, of Banklands Road, failed to stop for a police officer and ‘put others at risk’ with his driving through Netherton.

He has been sentenced to six months detention, suspended for 18 months, and put on a 3-month electronically tagged curfew from 6pm to 6am.

Burkevics admitted dangerous driving, failing to stop for a uniformed officer, and driving without a licence or insurance.

He must pay £613 in fines and costs and has been disqualified for two years.

A Brierley Hill 18-year-old who admitted having an offensive weapon crowbar and cannabis has been placed under curfew for a month.

Conner Barnes, of Plant Court, had a crowbar in Jackson Street, Oldbury. He has been put on an electronically monitored curfew from 6pm to 6am and was ordered to pay £175 in costs.

A Dudley man has been curfewed after pleading guilty to threatening words or behaviour towards a police officer.

Jamie Wood, aged 21, of Shadwell Drive, Lower Gornal, was given a community order and put under curfew for 30 days from 10pm to 7am.He was ordered to pay £230 in costs.

A Halesowen man is threatened with prison because of a history of racial abuse.

David Edward Littley, aged 29, of Cherry Orchard Avenue, admitted harassing Zishaan Azad and criminal damage to two washing machines belonging to him, worth £500.

Littley was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to pay £600 compensation.
