A COVID-19 testing site has opened in Redditch in the last week, making it easier for residents to get tested.

Anyone booking a test using the Government’s online booking form will now be offered the choice of the new site in addition to the new testing centre in Worcester and the regional testing centre in Spetchley Road at County Hall.

The Redditch site is based in the town’s Trescott Road Car Park, whilst the Worcester one is based at the University of Worcester Arena Car Park, with four more sites to be announced across the county’s other districts in the coming weeks.

The testing sites have been placed in areas where people are able to walk to access them rather than using a car. This offers more choice for those who don’t drive or have access to a vehicle. Until now their only alternative has been to order a home testing kit.

The testing sites are available for all age groups but must be booked in advance as they are not drop in centres. For those who want to arrive on foot, we are asking them not to use public transport if they have any symptoms but to walk or ride a bike.

Councillor John Smith, Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Health and Wellbeing, said: “It’s really good that we now have walk in testing centres across the county, to help us keep up with the demand for tests locally, and provide more people with an opportunity to get tested when they need it. It is really important that all those who attend the centre, follow the Hands, Face, Space guidance, when attending. Although the centres are known as walk in, you must book an appointment prior to going to the centre.”

To book a Covid-19 test people can visit Government’s online booking form or call 119.

Further testing sites are due to open in other districts and will be announced by the Department of Health and Social Care.

People have been urged to not book a test unless you have a symptom of Covid-19 or have been told officially to book one.
