SCHOOLS and community groups are being invited to be part of Worcester’s second major public art trail in summer 2021, which will see colourful elephants parade through the city’s streets and open spaces.

Worcester’s Big Parade will bring around 60 decorated elephant sculptures to the city for eight weeks next summer, including approximately 30 calves which will have been created by local children, teachers and community group members.

The calves will be displayed in city shop windows and at Crowngate Shopping Centre during the trail before being returned to their creators as a lasting memory of the project.

Sara Matthews, business development manager for St Richard’s Hospice, which is bringing the parade to Worcester, said: “We’re beyond excited to host Worcester’s Big Parade next summer, and for the chance to bring the whole community together safely once again.

“Our ‘Mini Parade’ of elephant calves is integral to the event, showcasing the creativity of groups within our community, whilst providing a platform for exploring nature, mindfulness and mental health, and the importance of physical activity. It’s also a great way to engage different age groups with a common goal: to look after each other, and take time to enjoy our beautiful surroundings.

“One of other our key aims is to create lasting memories for local people, reflecting our work at St Richard’s. We know that the pride of designing an elephant, sharing it with friends and family during the trail, before returning it to your school or community group, will live on in memories for years to come.”
