A BABY may just be the youngest to have ever scaled some of the Wainwright mountain trails at just five-weeks-old.

Tom and Harriet Dove decided to take a months holiday to the Lake District with their newborn daughter Matilda and share with her their love of the countryside and what the peaks in Cumbria have to offer.

The two doctors first discovered their love for the region back in their university days at Nottingham, now they are settled in Bristol where 33-year-old Tom works in gastroenterology and 30-year-old Harriet as a General Practitioner.

Mr Dove said: “We were climbing her first Wainwright - Place Fell - on August 9- when she had just turned five weeks old.

"We then climbed Dow Crag the same week, then Green Gable, Brandreth, and Grey Knotts at eight weeks, having been up to Scotland in between.

"We were advised in Scotland she might be the youngest Munro bagger, as there had been a recent news report of a 10-week old who had been up some Munros.

"In hindsight we realised there may not be many as young as Tilly to have started climbing the Wainwrights.

"We were getting a lot of positive comments when we were going up the mountains.

"We have been coming up to the Lakes for about ten years now.

"We love the walking here and we wanted to share that with Matilda as soon as possible.

"We hope this will be the start of many more trips."

The trio spent their holiday based in Finsthwaite, just above Newby Bridge.
