TWO people have been taken to hospital after they were rescued from a house fire in Redditch.

The fire happened at a house in Salters Lane in the Batchley area of Redditch at around 2.50pm today (Saturday September 26).

Police urged people to avoid the area as they dealt with the incident.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the fire and police have put out an appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

The blaze, which left two people injured, started in the bedroom.

A spokesman for West Merica Police said: "We are assisting the fire service at an address in Salters Lane in Redditch following reports of a house fire.

"Two people were rescued from the fire and have been taken to hospital for treatment.

"The public are asked to avoid Salters Lane while emergency services deal with the incident.

"A joint investigation between police and the fire service is ongoing.

"An investigation into the cause of the fire has been commenced by the Police and Fire Service.

"Anyone who may have information relating to this fire is asked to Call 101, West Mercia Police and quote Incident 00328_I_26092020."

Hereford and Worcester Fire Control tweeted about the incident.

They tweeted: "14:50 @HWFireRedditch @HWFireBGrove & @HWFireDroitwich with @WMerciaPolice and @OFFICIALWMAS attended a house fire in the Batchley area of Redditch.

"Fire located in bedroom of property and extinguished by Fire Service using 4 BA, 2 hose reels and one main jet."
