The Reds kicked off the 2020-21 season at the TRICO Stadium, with new boss Matt Clarke taking charge of his first competitive fixture, hosting Needham Market.
Optimism chimed around the bumper crowd with the change in leadership in the dugout and boardroom over the summer. Despite this, it was the Marketman who registered the first noticeable chance, which required an impressive save from the returning Kieran Boucher.
The Reds however were rewarded for their impressive beginning to the game and broke the deadlock in the 17th minute, when Jordon Clement guided the ball into the bottom corner from close range.
The visitors struck back quickly though, levelling the score in the 38th minute via a Billy Hunt solo strike.
The second half seen much more end to end action, with Needham being stopped by some great goalkeeping from Boucher.
Redditch also had their fair share of good opportunities, most notably a great effort from Jack Storer from a free kick 25 yards out, which was well saved by the away goalkeeper.
The Reds continued to play impressively, and despite some excellent pieces of play from the likes of Storer and Kieron Day, were unable to break the deadlock, with the spoils being shared on the season opener.
A very positive opening day for Clarke and his side, who will be disappointed to not come away with all 3 points after a good performance.
After the game, a spokesman for Redditch Utd said: "On top of the positive performance, a bumper attendance of 442 gave the place a real buzz all afternoon, and with a repeat of the levels seen today, the town will no doubt have pride in calling Redditch United their club again."
Next up Reds travel away to Hanley Town in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, which is also a sell-out!
