A PLAN has been lodged to build 12 affordable rent homes on a former car park in Redditch town centre.

The proposed site previously served as the car park for the Victoria Works industrial premises on Edward Street.

Accord Housing Association wants permission to construct one three-storey building to provide 12 one-bed apartments on the land.

The whole site, including the former car park, has been purchased by Accord to provide 100 per cent socially rented housing.

Previously, planning permission was granted for a total of 94 homes, which includes 26 townhouses and 68 apartments and an office space, to be built at the former works.

Some of the homes being developed for the new estate will be ‘virtually plastic free’, according to Accord.

The project is also part of a £25m regeneration scheme of affordable housing within Redditch town centre.
