COMMUNITY centre committee members are being invited to join an online information session about reopening their buildings.

Last Friday the Welsh Government announced changes in the response to COVID-19 in our communities.

These changes will now allow community centres and buildings to reopen for the first time since March 2020.

The Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW) is hosting an online event to go through the guidance, share best practice and network between community centres in the local area.

Mike Jones, chair of a local community building said: “We have now been given a lifeline to open our building - these last few months has been very worrying with no income but some ongoing expenses.”

The legal responsibility for safety falls to the committee or trustees when opening, therefore AVOW will be following the Welsh Government guidance throughout the session, with additional steps and guidance for buildings reopening.

The organisation has said it is "vital" that all management committees take note of the announcement from the First Minister on August 14 about the size of extended households and restrictions that will apply to indoor gatherings.

John Gallanders, chief officer of AVOW: said “Whilst the move is very welcome committees need to ensure that they have taken all necessary precautions to make their buildings safe.

"AVOW have held a couple of briefing sessions to help representatives share their experiences and another is being held next week.”

The next briefing session will take place on Thursday, August 20 at 9.30am.
