AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after reports of an assault involving a man with a knife at a New Forest supermarket.

Officers attended the Budgens store in Salisbury Road, Ringwood, on Monday afternoon and were at the scene for several hours carrying out inquiries.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of a string of offences including two assaults occasioning actual bodily harm and affray.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at 4.55pm yesterday to reports of an assault, and a man in possession of a knife, at the Budgens Store on Salisbury Road, Ringwood.

"Prior to officer arrival the suspect had left the scene.

"Enquiries were conducted to locate him and a 16-year-old boy from Fordingbridge was arrested on suspicion of two assaults occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a Class A drug. He remains in custody at this time."
