A MAN has been discharged from Alexandra Hospital in Redditch after a month long battle with coronavirus.

Michael, a Covid-19 patient on the specialist respiratory ward, received a huge round of applause by NHS staff as he left the hospital.

In an emotional moment - Michael walked out of the Ward 1 after spending 29 days fighting the virus.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust congratulated the ward team on their Facebook page.

Social media users also shared messages of praise for the NHS staff. One user said: "Well done to all the dedicated staff".

Another said: "Brilliant news, well done to all NHS staff Ward 1."

Another use said: "We have such wonderful healthcare teams here in Worcestershire. We are so fortunate - all heroes."

Previously, Leighton Webster from Redditch left intensive care at the hospital after a two month fight against coronavirus.

The patient spent 59 long days at the ward battling the deadly virus and has now made a recovery.

The hospital trust shared a video of the emotional moment Mr Webster left the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and said the Covid-19 survivor had a 'few close calls'.

He was applauded by NHS care workers as he left the unit.
