A REDDITCH man has left intensive care after a two month fight against coronavirus at the Alexandra Hospital.

Leighton Webster spent 59 long days at the ward battling the deadly virus and has now made a recovery.

The hospital trust shared a video of the emotional moment Mr Webster left the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and said the Covid-19 survivor had a 'few close calls'.

He was applauded by NHS careworkers as he left the unit.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said: "Thanks to care of the team on the unit at Alexandra Hospital, he’s now improved enough to move out of ICU."

"Let’s hear it for Leighton."

Meanwhile, the trust have also announced the last of Worcestershire's temporary coronavirus intensive care units were closed down yesterday (June 10).

They confirmed that all affected patients are now being cared for at the main units at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in Charles Hastings Way and the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch.
