REDDITCH Borough Council has reminded residents to not put non-recyclable items in green bins after waste samples revealed contamination.

In light of the Covid-19 crisis, Redditch residents are being urged to continue following the council's guidelines on what can go in green recycling bins.

The council shared pictures taken from two six-tonne samples of waste from green bins that has over 20 per cent contamination.

In a tweet the council said: "We're aware that the current situation with Covid-19 is difficult but PLEASE do not put non-recyclable items in your green bins."

Items that can recycled in green bins includes food and drink cans, glass bottles and jars, and most paper and magazines.
