AMAZON and supermarket giant Morrisons have expanded their Prime Now grocery delivery service to Redditch in a bid to aid contactless shopping.

The service was previously mainly available to Prime customers in large cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham.

But it has now been launched in Worcester and surrounding towns, including Redditch, as of Thursday (May 14).

The companies hope it will prove useful to vulnerable people who are shielding during the coronavirus lockdown or those worried about shopping in stores due to social distancing fears.

Customers can order their Morrisons shop online, either on the app or at primenow.amazon.co.uk, which is then collected at a local store and delivered by Amazon.

The service currently only includes certain products such as fruit and vegetables, cupboard-based food products, household items and pet supplies.

But the companies say chilled and frozen items are set to be added to the selection 'in the very near future'.

All are sourced directly from local Morrisons stores, including the Redditch shop located on Warwick Highway.

Customers can choose from delivery options including delivery at no additional cost within a two-hour window between 8am and midnight.

“We are committed to delivering what we know our customers care the most about – low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery," said Doug Gurr, Amazon UK country manager.

"We are delighted that Prime members in Worcester and the surrounding areas can shop regularly with fast delivery to their door.

“Expanding the Morrisons store on Prime Now enables us to offer Morrisons' high quality grocery selection to even more Prime members.”

David Potts, Morrisons chief executive, said: “We are always looking at ways to serve customers better, so we are very pleased to combine our good quality great value food with Amazon’s fast home delivery.”
