STAFF at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch who filmed themselves dancing could miss out on TV fame after bosses stepped in.

Dieticians at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust have shared a clip on Twitter after comedian Peter Kay called on key workers to recreate the iconic ‘(Is This The Way To) Amarillo' music video.

However, not all medics at the hospital will be in with the chance of featuring on the show as the advertiser understands some staff have been told not to share their dancing videos on social media.

Workers on wards 11 and 12 at Alexandra Hospital, who are treating people for coronavirus, wanted to join other emergency staff across the UK in sharing their own ‘Amarillo’ dance video earlier today, but bosses have so far said no.

Comedian Peter Kay encouraged key workers to film a recreation of the iconic music video and upload them to social media to be in with the chance of making it in his final film, which will be aired on the BBC’s Big Night In tonight.

The comedian thanked NHS staff and other emergency workers across the country for marching along to the music, sharing some of the videos on his Twitter account.

He said on Facebook: “We’ve literally received thousands. Lots of very emotional clips from nurses and care workers and key workers and shoe repairers. Thank you all.”

The Big Night In, which launches tonight at 7pm on BBC One, sees Comic Relief and Children in Need join forces to raise funds for vulnerable people amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The trust has been contacted repeatedly by the Advertiser but so far has not commented.
