A SELFLESS Redditch IT manager and others have been printing face shields and shipping them to front line care workers amid the coronavirus crisis.

Stuart Barnwell, with the help of partner Kevin Tonry, have set up multiple 3D printers to produce protective face shields and have made around 1,500 for those who need them the most.

So far they have sent the protective equipment, free of charge, to GPs, care home workers, pharmacies and hospitals in Worcester, Warwick and Hereford.

They aim to send around 200 face shields to workers at Alexandra Hospital in Redditch this weekend.

Redditch Advertiser:

The team says they are getting multiple requests each day from pharmacies and care homes every day, as well as family members of those working on the front line who they are frightened for the safety of loved ones.

The team has set up a Go Fund Me page to support the effort, with donations going towards materials to print the shields and shipping costs.

They have raised over £1,700 and will be donating surplus funds to an NHS charity.

Stuart, aged 33, said: "3D printing is a personal hobby of mine. We have friends around the country who are printing for the cause as well.

"There is a lack of PPE for NHS and related front line heroes that are working night and day to save lives and help people in need.

"I started seeing news articles online and on Facebook groups and friends who worked in care who were struggling.

"It got a little bit more real when we had messages from parents frightened for their children who work in care.

"Even ambulance crews can't get them. We handed out a bag of face shields to them.

"We are not selling them or making any profit, but it's very annoying when you see people selling them to people for £50.

"People are desperate to pay stupid amounts to get hold of them. It's quite scary I must admit."
