THREE landmark crosses can be seen on a hilltop in Mappleborough Green to mark Holy Week.

The crosses have stood tall during the Easter period for many years, and have been the scene of a service held at midday on Good Friday.

The service is cancelled this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Arden Marches Churches are offering worship resources and livestreaming on Facebook.

The Reverend Kate Mier, vicar of Studley, Mappleborough Green, Morton Bagot, Spernall and Oldberrow said: "I am delighted that Jon Richards who owns the land has once again positioned the crosses on the hill for this Holy Week 2020.

“The crosses are visible from the road, and our prayer is that seeing the crosses as they drive past will lift the spirits of those dedicated key workers making essential journeys at this time.

“From the top of the hill you can see for many miles across Redditch and Warwickshire.

“We pray that knowing the crosses are there, even if we cannot visit them in person this year, will give us a sense of the love and presence of God in Jesus Christ watching over us all.

“The message of the Cross of Jesus Christ is that Jesus shares our sufferings and our distress, loves every human being enough to lay down his life for us, removes our fear of death by making it the gateway to life with God, and forgives all our selfishness and cruelty.

“So the Cross of Jesus Christ brings real hope and strength to us in this time of suffering here and around the world.

“Although we cannot gather physically for worship this Good Friday and Easter Day, we and many other churches are offering worship resources for people to use in their own homes, and livestreaming daily worship on Facebook.

“In these distressing days may God protect us, comfort us, help us and save us through his Son Jesus Christ.”

At 10am on Easter Day the Arden Marches Churches will livestream a Zoom family service.
