MESSAGES of support are pouring in for the Prime Minister as he remains in intensive care today with coronavirus.

Last night, Downing Street confirmed Boris Johnson had been taken into intensive care after his COVID-19 symptoms 'worsened.'

Towards the end of last month, the PM revealed he had tested positive for the virus and would self-isolate until symptoms subsided.

The PM was said to have been in 'good spirits' just hours before he had to be taken to an intensive care unit on Monday evening.

Since then politicians from across the North-East have been showing their support on social media - wishing the PM a speedy recovery.

Conservative MP for Bishop Auckland, Dehenna Davison said: "My thoughts, prayers, and all good wishes are with @BorisJohnson and his loved ones this evening.

"This just shows that Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate and can affect any one of us. Keep protecting yourself, your family, and others #StayHomeSaveLives."

Conservative MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, Simon Clarke said: "Sending the Prime Minister my thoughts and prayers tonight - and I know I do so on behalf of thousands of people in Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland."

Meanwhile the Conservative MP for Darlington, Peter Gibson said: "Thoughts and prayers with both @carriesymonds and @BorisJohnson tonight."

But the outpouring of support was not limited to Conservative politicians, as Labour MPs wished him well this morning.

Labour MP for South Shields, Emma Lewell-Buck said: "Wishing the PM a speedy recovery, prayers with him and his loved ones."

Labour MP for City of Durham, Mary Foy said: "My thoughts go out to the Prime Minister & his family at this difficult & worrying time. He's in good hands with our brilliant NHS & I hope he gets well soon."
