RESIDENTS were left disgusted after "three Transit vans" worth of rubbish was dumped in an alleyway at the back of their houses over the course of five days.

People who live on Hatfield Road in Bolton discovered on Friday, March 27 that a hoard of waste had been thrown on the alley the previous night.

Only 24 hours later neighbours woke to find another collection of mess in the same spot.

And on Tuesday, March 31 a third pile of rubbish was deposited in the alley.

Overall, it was estimated that 70 bin bags of household waste were dumped as well as other large items such as wardrobes and carpets.

The Bolton News:

Resident Catherine Johnson, 48, said: "I was absolutely fuming.

"What gives someone the right to take rubbish and dump it into the back of someone else’s property?

"People need to understand we all have the problem of rodents and there is a lot of open land where we live where they can come from."

After Catherine contacted Bolton Council, the local authority cleared up the rubbish.

The council also took aim at fly-tippers.

The Bolton News:

Executive cabinet member for environmental services at Bolton Council, Cllr Adele Warren, said: “Please refrain from dumping waste in public spaces.

"The law has not changed – leaving waste in public spaces is a criminal offence.

“Anyone caught flytipping will face a fine and where we have evidence we will prosecute.

“If you are out walking, please take your rubbish home with you as we are not currently emptying public litter bins.

“We are doing our best to keep the streets clean but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of staff working has reduced so please bear with us.

“We are still responding to issues with flytipping, where possible."
