NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group - Why the awards are important to us

NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, believes these awards to be an important initiative in showcasing the hard work of NHS and other health and care staff across Herefordshire who work tirelessly to ensure the health and wellbeing of our population.

This year we are proudly sponsoring the Dementia Care Worker of the Year category.

Dementia can be a very isolating condition for an individual and a family to live with and we understand how this can affect carers too. Carers are the unsung heroes of this devastating illness as they must watch the loss of the person in a way that is different to many other diseases. Carers continue to love and support those with dementia while they remain essentially themselves, as they lose the person the care for slowly and sometimes over a period of many years.

Many people don’t fully understand that dementia has many different symptoms and impacts, not just memory and concentration issues. Physical ailments are also present, such as; unstable balance, fatigue and less spatial awareness.

We know this is demanding on carers and by supporting and sponsoring this category we hope to signal support for carers living with dementia but also raise awareness with others about what these carers do every day. We also want to highlight the impact that dementia has on whole families and society and encourage more people to offer help and support to these fantastic carers throughout the county.

We hope that people will show their appreciation for the health and care workforce in our county by participating in the awards and sending in nominations to recognise the dedication of the many thousands of staff who work in the health and care sector in the county.
