"WE are in Redditch... not Amsterdam!"

That's the message from police in Redditch following a week of cracking down on drugs in the town.

Commenting on Facebook earlier this week police said: “Good afternoon Redditch. Just a little reminder that Cannabis is a class B controlled substance. Possession is a criminal offence. We are in Redditch... not Amsterdam!"

The comment got a mixed reply from people, not all positive.

Earlier this week police raided a home in Batchley after a tip-off from neighbours.

The raid took place in Salters Lane earlier today and involved officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team, Task Force and the Local Policing Priorities Team.

A small cannabis growing operation was found.

The plants have been seized and an investigation is underway.

PC Stone, who led the operation after acting on local intelligence, said: “Drugs can blight local communities and we need to get them off the streets when we can."

The Advertiser also reported that drugs were found in a children's play area in Redditch.

Police have said they have received reports of anti-social behaviour and drug taking around Mayfields Park in Southcrest.
