WARRINGTON Market is soon to have a new home in the Time Square development.

The traders are set to move over from their temporary base within the next couple of months to the new unit which fronts onto Bridge Street in the former Boots building.

So this week, we have taken a look back in our archives to uncover this nostalgic picture of the former Fish Market in the 1970s.

It was first opened to the public in 1856 and still used as a market into the 1970s before the redevelopment of the area as Golden Square.

Designed by architect Stevens, it was a popular place to shop.

The area was restored as part of the development of Golden Square.

In more recent times it has held concerts with the likes of The Happy Mondays at Warrington Music Festival, been the centrepiece of the Warrington Christmas Lights switch-on and staged ice rinks, markets and dance showcases.
