PLANS to demolish a social club and build new homes in Redditch are set to be considered by councillors.
A planning application submitted to Redditch Borough Council would see St Benedicts in Batchley levelled and 11 houses built at the site on Rowan Road.
The club closed in October 2018 and is not considered financially viable by the Birmingham Roman Catholic Diocesan Trust who manage the venue.
The closure of the club was described as devastating to the community but the Trust says renovation costs would be more than £250,000 and the club does not make enough cash to survive.
A spokesperson for the Archdiocese said: “A feasibility study commissioned by the Archdiocese of Birmingham has concluded the club is unable to meet ongoing financial commitments and is therefore not financially viable.
"It is always sad to lose something like this and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the centre, and to those who have worked there over the years.”
The new housing estate would include nine two bedroom homes, a two bedroom maisonette and a one bedroom maisonette.
