THIS year's Holocaust Memorial Day event will be held on January 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

The schedule of events sees the procession leave Redditch Town Hall council chamber at 9.30am for a procession to the Holocaust marker.

At 10am there will be an event at the town hall with performances by Redditch Community Gospel Choir, Redditch Kerala Cultural Association, Redditch Polish Youth School choir, and readings by a number of invited guests.

At 11am there be a talk and Q&A by Holocaust survivor Mindu Hornick – an inspirational grandmother who survived the horrors of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.

Mindu was awarded an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours List.

Councillor Matt Dormer, leader of Redditch Borough Council, said: “Through Holocaust Memorial Day we stand together as a community to honour the memory of victims of genocide across the world. 75 years on, it is important we continue to remember, recognise and learn from such atrocities.

“All are welcome to attend and on behalf of the council I’d like to thank all the partners from across Redditch who are involved in the event, particularly our speaker for this year, Auschwitz survivor Mindu Hornick. We will continue to listen and learn from the past to ensure that we do not allow such things to occur again.”

Holocaust Memorial Day itself is on Monday, January 27.
