A DANGEROUS driver led police on a chase through residential streets just weeks after he was caught committing a similar offence.

On each occasion Aidan Naylor had been taking drugs.

At Bolton Crown Court Colin Buckle, defending, told Judge Andrew Hatton that it is the funeral of 24-year-old Naylor's father next week and appealed for him not to be sent to jail.

But the judge decided that the offending was so serious that only immediate imprisonment was appropriate and jailed him for six months.

Andrew Evans' prosecuting, told the court how, in the early hours of December 8 last year, Naylor was caught driving a BMW dangerously at up to 80mph and on footpaths after taking cocaine.

The Bolton News:

When he was given a suspended prison sentence for the offences in July this year the judge was unaware that Naylor, who has no driving licence, had also got behind the wheel of a VW Golf at 7.45pm on April 9.

Mr Evans said that, on that occasion, Naylor led police on a two and a half minute pursuit through Breightmet residential streets at up to 70mph and over speed bumps at 60mph until the car broke down on Deepdale Road.

Naylor, of Camrose Gardens, Bolton, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, having no insurance or licence and after using cannabis.

Colin Buckle, defending, said Naylor cannot explain why he was driving.

The Bolton News:

"He offers no excuse and makes no attempt to minimise his behaviour. He recognises the dangers he posed," said Mr Buckle.

He added that the sudden death of Naylor's father had had an impact on him.

Judge Hatton reminded Naylor that, after the first time he was caught, he had told police, "I'm sorry, I was stupid."

"Your stupidity clearly continued," the judge told him.

"It was only and matter of good fortune that no one's life was put at risk."

Naylor was banned from holding a licence for three years and must take an extended test.
