A RETIREMENT village is opening its doors to lonely people who could use some festive cheer, and is welcoming them for a Christmas lunch.

Richmond Wood Norton, situated in Wood Norton, will open its doors on Monday December 16 to ensure that everyone can have some fun.

The Evesham based retirement village has teamed up with AGE UK Reconnections to help those lonely in the local community this festive season by nominating people who are on their own, to visit Richmond Villages for a free lunch.

The loneliness crisis in the UK has hit an all-time high, with 1.4 million older people struggling on a daily basis. In fact, 225,000 often go a whole week without speaking to anyone. Richmond Villages believes that this is an issue that no one should suffer with, and therefore plan to bring some fun, laughter and Christmas cheer to the people of Evesham over the festive period.

Village manager Paul Brady says, “This year we’ve enjoyed welcoming our new residents into their homes and building strong friendships with them."

"We know that loneliness can affect people from all walks of life, in particular the elderly. That’s why we delight in opening our doors and inviting people from the local community in as much as possible, regularly hosting coffee mornings and external events to enable people to make the most of our amazing facilities. Christmas should be no different and we can’t wait to enjoy our turkey and a glass of fizz as a community.”

Richmond Villages opened the doors to the brand new Wood Norton retirement village in March 2019. Since then, 79 residents have moved into their new homes.
