RESIDENTS have branded this year's Christmas tree "ridiculous" and the town centre lights "embarrassing".
The town's Christmas lights were officially turned on the weekend as part of a Lights Switch On event, featuring a parade, music and entertainment from local acts, and The Greatest Show Performance.
However, it seems a number of people are less than impressed.
One despairing reader said: "Firstly it’s not a tree. The tree has a trunk, this doesn’t have a trunk. It’s technically a light covered cone. With an arch underneath it.
"It looks pretty ridiculous actually, why couldn’t we have had a traditional Christmas tree?"
They added: "I have to say as a local blogger I find the Christmas lights offering rather embarrassing.
"The only part that looks relatively good is the part on the other side of the bandstand down what I call estate agents row towards Loyds Bank.
"Although the light installations on the lampposts don’t match consecutively."
Another called it a "strange looking dome Christmas tree."
While one resident simply said it's "Blooming awful".
However, not everyone dislikes it with many calling it brilliant, beautiful, and saying it makes a welcome change.
