AN online campaign has been started to try to save a landmark railway bridge over Green Lane between Redditch and Studley.

There are plans to remove the bridge, which is owned and maintained by Redditch Council, which reportedly claims the bridge is unsafe and uneconomical to repair.

A Facebook campaign to stop the council's decision to knock down the bridge says demolishing it would endanger lives.

It says the bridge, described as a local landmark, is a safe means of crossing Green Lane as well as one of the only child, elderly, and disabled person safe picturesque cycle and footpaths in the Studley and Redditch area.

There are fears that knocking down the bridge, to make way for new homes, would open up the road to HGVs and fast moving traffic and make the crossing unsafe.

There are also concerns that the land will be sold to developers.
