ALCESTER school St Benedict’s has praised its pupils following GCSE results showing improvement across all key measures.

70 per cent of pupils secured 9 to 4 grades in both English and maths and 43 per cent secured 9-5 grades in English and maths: a 6-percentage point increase on last year.

Top performers include 20 students who averaged at least 56 points from their best eight GCSEs which is equivalent to straight A grades.

Headteacher David Hughes said: “I am delighted that the pupils’ hard work, the support of their parents/carers and the dedication of St. Benedict’s staff has been rewarded with superb results for so many of our students this year.

"We are looking forward to welcoming many of our students back to study the International Baccalaureate or BTEC courses with us in September and wish our leavers every success and happiness for their futures.”
