FA CUP LIVE: Worcester City 4 Stone Old Alleynians 1

Our live feed has now finished.

  • FT: City 4 (Harrison 10, 22p, Jeys 14, Andoh 81) Stone OA 1 (Tomlinson 2)
  • WORCESTER City fought back from an early sucker punch to beat lower-ranked Stone Old Alleynians 4-1 – but the score only told half the story.
  • Two porous defences could have shipped more, particularly City’s, and while the hosts had far greater quality when they went through the gears the defending was slipshod at times.
  • Nat Kelly fell on the edge of his own box to allow Jack Tomlinson in to steer inside Ted Cann’s near post after 90 seconds to give Stone the mother of all starts.
  • City were rocked for 10 minutes but the tide turned immediately after the equaliser with Jordan Harrison firing low across Adam Alcock from Chris Withington’s intelligent throughball from deep.
  • Within four minutes City led with Jak Jeys seizing upon a weak Alcock clearance to send a bouncing 25-yard effort into the net.
  • Stone became swarmed for a time and it was no surprise when the third arrived, Jeys stinging Alcock’s palms from distance only for Harrison to be upended by the stopper chasing the rebound.
  • Harrison calmly slotted home the penalty low to Alcock’s left 22 minutes in.
  • Worcester continued to carry a threat for a while but then dropped off, gifting Stone sitters.
  • Sam Hall was caught in possession by Sam Wilson who was spectacularly thwarted by keeper Ted Cann.
  • Wilson was then teed up by Will Bailey but his bobbling effort crept wide of Cann’s far post and the same man leant back when 15 yards out with a clear sight of goal moments before the interval.
  • Both teams were more composed after the restart and chances dried up until the final 20 minutes.
  • Cann clawed away Tomlinson’s near-post effort in what was the last of Stone’s serious threats.
  • Substitutes Levi Andoh, Kurtis Mewies and Demetri Brown gave City the boost they needed late on, Brown lifting in for Andoh to nod in his first senior goal at the far post with nine minutes left.
  • Brown then hit the bar via Danny Heard’s touch with a minute remaining but the scoreline already had a somewhat flattering look to it.
  • City scoop £2,250 in prize money and a trip to MFL Premier new boys Heather St John's in the preliminary round on August 24.
