A MAN who wrongly believed his former girlfriend was having an affair with his father sent her porn via Facebook.

Sam Wilson was mentally ill when he used the social media messenger app to send threatening messages and a hard core movie to Jessica Galbraith.

At Redditch Magistrates Court, Wilson, aged 23, of Manor Court, Stratford-upon-Avon, admitted sending messages and the video clip which he threatened to distribute over the internet.

The court was told the clip had been downloaded from the internet and did not show anyone connected to the case.

Prosecutor Tim Talbot-Webb described how Wilson's messages became increasingly hostile, finally saying he hoped his ex died slowly and painfully.

The court heard at the time of the offences, in November 2018, Wilson had developed psychotic delusions but he did not believe he was mentally ill and was not taking adequate medication.

During the same period Wilson had also been convicted of battery following an assault on his mother and father.

He initially entered a plea of not guilty to sending the messages on the basis he was psychotic and not aware they were threatening.

However a psychiatrist concluded that, while he was delusional, he was well enough at the time to understand the effect of his actions.

Wilson's solicitor, Dean Hicks, said: "His defence in law had gone, his expert witness was against him.

"He understands Ms Galbraith was distressed, the video was never distributed, this was in the midst of mental illness."

The court also heard Wilson was now taking higher doses of anti-psychosis drugs to control his condition and there had been no further contact with his former partner.

He was released on unconditional bail to await sentencing after reports had been prepared and chairman of the bench, Chris Mitchell, said it was a serious offence and all sentencing options remained open.
