A REDDITCH man has been jailed for two years and four months after a drug-fuelled drive left a woman seriously injured.

Ritchie Cook was driving on Alcester Road South in Kings Heath, Birmingham, when he lost control of the car and veered onto the wrong side of the road.

In doing so, the 28-year-old engineer mounted the pavement and hit a stationary car at the Tenbury Road junction.

Cook then hit a woman who was walking along the pavement with her friend − with his car only coming to a stop when he crashed into a wall.

Such was the impact of the collision on July 8 last year, the woman needed a number of operations on her foot, and was left with permanent tissue damage.

Cook, of Greenlands Avenue in Redditch, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving as well as drug driving, after ketamine was found in his system.

Detective Sergeant Phil Hinton, from West Midlands Police, said: “This sentencing proves dangerous drivers who take risks on our roads, risking the lives of themselves and others, will not be let off lightly.

“I hope this acts as a deterrent to those who think they are invincible and can get away with drug driving."

Cook was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on February 28 and also given a three-year driving ban.
