A REDDITCH supermarket has said it will be "reviewing measures" after a picture showed its car park had turned into an unofficial tip.

The Advertiser reported last week that the car park of Sainsburys in Redditch was littered with countless empty boxes and bin bags left scattered.

Pictures sent to the paper show the recycling area of the supermarket, in the Abbey Trading Centre, is proving to be a hotspot for people desperate to get rid of rubbish.

Bags and items also spilled out from clothing banks.

One woman, who did not wish to be named, said it was making the area an eyesore.

She said: “It is a disgrace, the large flattened cardboard was being blown around due to very blustery conditions."

She added that the store said it had been let down by the refuse company.

A Sainsbury’s Spokesperson said: “The recycling service at our Redditch store is popular with many of our customers who want to do their bit for the environment.

"However, recently there have also been cases of misuse and we work to clear the area as quickly as possible. We’re also reviewing measures we can put in place to prevent this from happening in future.”
