CREATIVE people are wanted for a special group to try to enhance the town's arts and culture offerings.

On February 6 people are invited to attend a special event in Milward Square, under the Paolozzi Mosaics, in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

The idea is to bring together people in a visually stunning setting where they can mingle with other like-minded individuals to give their views to help shape the future of arts, culture, libraries and museums for the next 10 years.

The event will run from 6pm until 8pm at the latest and forms the first of several sessions which will help to shape a ‘Creative People and Places’ bid for up to £2m from Arts Council England to radically change the current creative opportunities in the town.

Councillor Mike Rouse, whose portfolio covers leisure and cultural services, said: "Every idea counts and attending this event could be the first steps towards making it a reality. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in our town to unlock the creative potential in Redditch.

"I would encourage as many group representatives and individuals to attend as possible.”

Jan Higgitt, director of Jestaminute Community Theatre cic and chairman of the steering group, said: “Being awarded this funding will enable us to empower people to experience, take part and be inspired by local arts and culture and actively make more opportunities to do this.

"This event is an opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the culture in the town. We also have some fun surprises in store on the night.”
