THE Greggs vegan sausage roll is proving to be a big hit in Redditch.
The store in Washford Retail Park said that Britain's most talked about new snack has been very popular.
A spokesman from the store said that since it launched on Thursday more than 240 have been sold.
"We sold more than 80 in the first two hours," they said.
"People have been coming in especially to get one. We've seen an increase of people in the shop.
"It's been very popular."
The new snack has proved a hot talking point that has certainly split opinion.
Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan branded the shop’s owners “PC-ravaged clowns” after the new vegan option was unveiled last week.
The presenter said “nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage” in response to the official Greggs launch tweet.
And earlier today the host tried a vegan sausage roll... but was less than impressed as he spat it into a bin.
The presenter said he was appalled by the smell and taste of the snack and ended up with his head in a waste basket after taking a single bite.
However, Greggs has been inundated with praise, with many saying they will become regular customers following the launch.
The vegan version has some “classic features” of the traditional sausage roll, according to Greggs, including 96 layers of puff pastry – but instead of meat the filling is made with Quorn.
It is also available at the two other Greggs in Redditch, in Moons Moat and the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
