HOMELESS people in Redditch are being offered emergency accomodation tonight as temperatures are set to drop.

Radiate Redditch is alerting people that there will be emergency shelter for any homeless person tonight.

It comes after the Severe weather emergency protocol (SWEP) has been activated.

SWEP aims to get rough sleepers off the streets during periods of below zero night-time temperatures, by providing emergency accommodation.

It comes amid reports a rough sleeper was found dead in Malvern on Christmas Day.

The death of the man, named locally as Joby Sparrey, has caused shock, anger and sadness among the people of the town.

Flowers and messages have been left outside Brays in Worcester Road, Malvern near where his body was found while others have left tributes online.

It was the second death of a rough sleeper in the town in the last two months following that of Remigiusz Boczarski who had been living in a bus shelter in Wells Road.

He is believed to have taken his own life aged 40 on October 31 last year.

Emergency accommodation will be provided at the Salvation Army building on Ipsley Street.

Doors open at 9.30pm.
