REDDITCH United's recent and rapid revival continued this week when they beat bottom of the table Bedworth United 2-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier.

It was probably one of Reds' poorest performances since Paul smith took charge.

But Smith was quick to praise his players, he said: "We didn't play well at all, but we still found a way to win and that's something which will take us a long way.

"You will always have games when the side isn't at it, but we managed to win while not playing well.

"The first goal from Leam Howards took a deflection but the second, from Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham, was the only bit of quality in the entire game. It was a 17 to 18 passing movement with a great finish. It was the only spark in a mundane game."

Smith also pointed to the performance of goalkeeper Reece Francis, who pulled off two top class saves before keeping out a last gasp penalty.

Smith said: "The penalty arrived too late to effect the result, there could have been only 10 seconds remaining.

"It was literally the last kick of the game but Reece got down to push the ball round the post.

"He was man of the match - but then, it wasn't hard to win it."

The result means Reds have pulled off four straight league wins which has taken them up to 17th spot in the table.

Smith added: "It has given the whole squad huge belief especially when you consider we were cut adrift at the bottom not so long ago.

"We're right up there in the form guide but all I'm interested in is putting as much breathing space as possible between ourselves and the bottom sides".

Reds were due to entertain Stourbridge this week in an eagerly awaited local derby.

Busy Reds then host strugglers Lowestoft Town at the Valley Stadium on Saturday.

Smith has also parted company with midfield player Ollie Mulders.

He was one of Smith's first signings following his arrival at Reds but has recently lost his place in the stating line-up.

Smith explained: "With the arrival of Ahmed Ali, Harry Franklin and Robbie Bunn in midfield, Ollie has found it hard to get his place back.

"Obviously he wants to start games rather than be sitting on the bench and I want to take this opportunity to wish him well for the future."
