WORCESTERSHIRE County Council is set to receive a boost of £2.3million in additional adult social care funding to help ease pressures on the NHS this winter.

Earlier this month, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, announced an extra £240million would be made available to local authorities to reduce delayed transfers of care.

Last week it was revealed Worcestershire County Council will be receiving a share of £2,384,625 based on the adult social care relative needs formula.

This cash boost could be spent on home care packages to help patients get out of hospital quicker, reablement packages, which support workers to help patients carry out everyday tasks and regain mobility and confidence, and home adaptations, including new facilities for personal care, such as adapting a shower room if a patient has limited movement.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean welcomed the news.

She said: “Over the past few months I’ve had numerous conversations with the county council and ministers about the need for additional funding for adult social care this coming Winter.

“I very much welcome the announcement that Worcestershire County Council will be receiving a cash boost of £2.3million to help the authority reduce delayed transfers of care, which if not tackled, could place significant pressure on the NHS this Winter.

“I will continue my conversations and meetings with council leaders and health bosses as they finalise their winter plans. I hope this additional funding will make a real difference on the ground and help reduce pressures facing our local hospitals.”
