A NEW group for older and vulnerable people in Redditch is being launched.

Following the closure of AGE UK's office in Redditch due to cost savings many older people were left devastated and with nowhere to go for support and assistance.

Redditch Councillor Pat Witherspoon, who represents Redditch Older People's Forum, decided to do something about it.

She said the group, based at Redditch's Ecumenical Centre, would be a type of resource centre for those needing it.

"We will need to raise funds but aim to open five days weekly, 10am to noon, staffed by volunteers," she said.

"Our aim is to provide an information bank to enable residents to find the help they need. We are asking all agencies within Redditch to provide their leaflets to us and we will share their information under one roof."

She added that anyone who can help, either with volunteering or finance, can email anntarry@hotmail.com, patwithersoon@btopenworld.com or 07941101124.

Called Redditch Together, there will be an inaugural annual general meeting to launch the project on Tuesday, October 16 at 11am.

All are welcome to attend.
