AUTHORS Alan Foxall and Ray Saunders are building on the success of their first pictoral history of Redditch with a second book, More Redditch Remembered.

The two have delved deeper into the Redditch Pictorial History Society's photo archives to uncover images of life in the town 40 years ago, hoping to show exactly how Redditch has changed over the years.

The town of today is totally different from the town of 40 years ago. The Redditch Development Corporation was responsible for the creation of a new town, which wiped away some of its industrial and social heritage by removing shops, offices and factories, as well as church halls, the Kingfisher Hall, and many of the local pubs.

The developments completely changed the face of Redditch and Alan and Ray hope to bring back some happy memories for those who can still remember the old town, as well as shining a light for younger residents on how life used to be.

The RDC tore the heart out of old Redditch'and most of the pubs and clubs disappeared under the bulldozers such as The Fleece Inn, Hungry Man, Nag's Head, Plumber's Arms, Rifleman, Rising Sun and the Talbot, which destroyed the existing social network.

The first Redditch Remembered book proved so popular that it had to be reprinted, and Alan and Ray hope this new volume of photographs will find a similar audience. Alan is a retired BT engineer, while Ray is a local businessman. Both are keen local historians.

More Redditch Remembered is now available from all good bookshops priced at £16.99, and online at www.breedonbooks
