MORE than 300 objections have been made to a controversial planning application to build a power station in Alcester, but delays to bring the application to council are set to continue.

The Advertiser first reported on plans to build a gas powered generation facility on agricultural land off Croft Lane in Haselor in June.

The application includes 22 gas generation engines, an access road, four metre-high fences, and four-metre high floodlight columns.

Residents are largely against the proposals, uniting under a ‘Stop the Croft Lane power station’ banner.

But the process to bring the application to council has been delayed with applicants Enso Energy fielding questions from consultees.

Highways England, Warwickshire Wildlife Trust and Warwickshire County Council have all raised concerns over drainage at the site and the impact of floodlight columns.

In response, Bethan Kington, senior planning consultant for Enso, said noise levels will be "lower than the background noise levels" and emissions would be "below air quality objectives".

Impact on the adjoining A46 is "considered to be minimal" as the site would be screened by hedgerow trees, while lighting would be limited and "less intrusive” than vehicle headlights.

Floodlight columns will also be triggered by movement only for security purposes, be downward facing, and utilise "warm coloured LED bulbs...to minimum potential impacts".

A total of 16 per cent of the site plan will also be non-permeable, ensuring surface flood water risk “will not adversely impact” the adjoining A46.

The response has satisfied Warwickshire County Council to raise no objections, on the condition a water surface drainage scheme begins before construction.

Warwickshire Wildlife Trust is also satisfied concerns have been addressed.

But Highways England continues to raise concern over flooding, suggesting the topography of the site could see surface water “severely impact” the A46 drainage system, while light “may cause a visual distraction to road users on the A46”.

Stratford District Council is currently awaiting further information from Enso before the plan is put to council, but does not have a date set.
