ONE of the region's most popular choirs are looking to recruit more members at a special open evening which will be held at the Jubilee Centre, St Faiths Road in Alcester on September 19.

The in demand and much loved choir was founded 44 years ago by current director of music Judith Land.

She said: "Our membership at the moment stands at just over 80 men, drawn from all walks of life, of all musical abilities and of all ages, but we do lose members through a variety of reasons so it is essential to secure the future of the choir through constant recruitment.

"Potential members often hesitate to take that first step and I fully understand why. But I would like to assure any gentleman interested that they would be made most welcome.

"There are no stressful auditions, they will receive help and guidance every step of the way, they don't have to read music, they will make new friends and above all have fun and through singing probably be healthier.

"All I ask is that potential new members have an interest in singing and are prepared to attend the Wednesday evening rehearsals and only when they feel confident take part in the regular concerts."

She added: "We are a modern male voice choir that have exciting and ambitious musical plans and our musical programme is relevant to today's concert goers. I urge anyone who feels they would like to find out what its all about to come along to the open evening, they can just sit and watch and learn how it works or join in.

"If they are still uncertain why not come along with a friend?"

The open evening starts at 7.30pm and men interested can call 07886139781.
