A GERMAN themed festival will return this year after it made its first appearance in the city last year.

Oktoberfest came to Worcester Racecourse last year, receiving a mixed response.

The two-day festival taking inspiration from the popular German event came to the city bringing with it the famous Bavarian oompah bands, steins and sausages.

Final tickets have already gone on sale for the festival.

A spokesman for the festival said: "I think last year was really successful, a lot of people had an amazing time.

"The famous oompah bands will be back and there will be a bit more variety.

"Pre-sales are up on last year which we are very happy with. We want it to get bigger and better each year.

"We want to bring the full Oktoberfest experience to Worcester.

"We are in negotiations with a beer provider and more information will be available shortly."

The festival received some criticism from visitors who said that the event was over-priced, whilst others claimed that it failed to capture the German experience.

Asked about this, the spokesman added: "Any feedback we have received will certainly be taken into account.

"No decisions have been made about pricing, but if we feel that there are things that can be improved we will certainly do that."

Last year, bands performed on the stage in a huge tent holding thousands of people, with traditional German style tables.

Around 30,000 litres of beer were brought in from one of the world’s oldest breweries, ABK for 5,000 to 7,000 revellers over the weekend.

It will take place this year on Friday October 19 and Saturday October 20.

Tickets are on sale for Friday evening from 6pm until 11pm, on Saturday afternoon from 12pm until 5pm, and from 6pm until 11pm on Saturday evening.
